Tips to Protect Babies From Cold & Cough

A newborn baby is susceptible to numerous infections and colds so you must follow these 6 ways to protect your baby during the cold season:

    1. Be on high alert before winter

To keep your baby safe and warm you must keep your baby away from crowded places like theatre halls, grocery stores, and shopping malls.

    2. Keep your baby covered when in public places

You may have to step out of your house before winter end, or you may have to go to the mall you must cover your baby with a thin blanket and keep your baby in the stroller. This also prevents strangers to peek in or touch the baby.

    3. Always carry a hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes

Germs can live up to hours on things like handles, stair railing, elevator buttons, shopping carts, etc. Even if you cannot rush to the washroom nearby, your hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will save you and the baby.

    4. No sick guests allowed

Enforce a strict rule to not let in all the family members/guests suffering from any ailment especially asthma, bronchitis, or influenza to see the baby. Maintain a certain distance from the baby and video calls can help if they are missing the baby a lot. Even the family member who gets a fever should remain in one room to maintain distance from the baby.

    5. Breastfeed the baby

As per the studies, babies who are exclusively on breastfeeds are less likely to get infected from cold and flu as compared to the ones who are on formula feeds. Your breast milk provides an extra line of defence to your baby and helps in making a stronger immune system for your baby.

    6. Vaccination schedule

No matter how hectic your schedule gets, do not skip your baby’s vaccinations. Getting your child vaccinated on time is important and that keeps your baby healthy in the future.

You must avoid trying too many products on your baby’s delicate skin. Massage your baby’s body with herbal oil and this will keep him/her warm during the cold season. Do not use heavy blankets to cover your baby because that can suffocate your little one. Cover your baby with socks, gloves, cap, and warm sweaters during winter. Maintain the room’s hygiene and temperature.
