Are you confused about what to buy and what not to buy during your pregnancy? Here are 7 important points that you must keep in mind before shopping for trendy maternity wear.

Pregnancy is a miraculous journey that comes along with a lot of discomfort and a zillion unanswered question. It will be a daunting task for you to deal with your wardrobe when you are bringing a new life into this world. Instead of making that long shopping list, you can wisely invest in clothes that are comfortable and can fit you later on also. Wearing appropriate clothes during pregnancy is a necessity and not a luxury however it doesn’t mean that you have to change your entire wardrobe for that. If you don’t want to compromise on your comfort then you should keep these points in mind before buying your maternity wear:

    • Shop your (own) closet first- Before you begin the hunt for all those trendy maternity wears just take a look at your closet and see what might work for instance flowing skirts, empire waist tops, oversized button-down shirts, loose-fitting maxi dresses, large cardigans, oversized sweaters, and jersey-style shirts. Cotton clothes will be your most preferred ones because they are breathable and it helps absorb sweat and prevents skin rashes.

    • Appropriate undergarments- Avoid purchasing underwire/padded bras as they inhibit blood circulation and invest in some superior quality maternity bras that are comfortable, supportive, soft, and stretchy. A well-fitted maternity bra and underwear will give you a seamless experience throughout your pregnancy. During pregnancy, your waist and breasts increase in size so you can experience discomfort if not wearing the appropriate size. You won’t be having the freedom to sleep in the position of your choice if you are wearing uncomfortable undergarments.

    • Keep it simple- Stick to the basics when you want to look effortlessly stylish. You can get a pair of jeggings, flowy button-down shirts, a nice pair of jeans with an elastic waist, maternity gowns/dresses as they are super comfortable. For that perfect professional wear, you can team up with an A-line kurta with a pair of comfortable leggings. For that casual look, you can wear a knee-length t-shirt dress. To expand your wardrobe, you must buy things that will easily complement the stuff you already have.

    • Borrow from friends/family- You can save a lot of time and money by borrowing some clothes from your mother-in-law, mother, elder sister, or best friend. Always remember that you will need a different size of clothes during each trimester of your pregnancy so never hesitate to borrow them from your friends/family.

    • Look for deals- Keep an eye on discount offers, promo codes and grab on deals. If a family function is approaching in June, then you can always get a new dress a few months before from an app at a discounted price. Do not wait for those last-minute purchases because you might end up buying some expensive stuff.

    • Don’t neglect the footwear- Choosing comfortable footwear that compliments all your outfits will not be an easy task for sure. Prefer to wear open-toed shoes and avoid wearing high-heels because that can cause slip and fall accidents. If you have swelling on your feet then you can choose a size bigger than your usual size of sneakers. You must opt for anti-slip pregnancy slippers that have cushioned footbeds.

    • Always accessorize- Get creative with your dressing sense and use jewelry to add a personal style quotient to your simple maternity wear. You can wear bold necklaces, chunky earrings, dainty bracelets, statement rings to express your personality and style.

To accentuate your features, you can choose to wear a well-fitted top with cap sleeves and pair it with a knee-length skirt and ankle-length pants. Wear clothes that provide sufficient support to your growing abdomen. Avoid wearing pants and skirts that have belts or zippers. For your convenient frequent visits to the washroom, you must opt for elastic band skirts, pants, palazzos, and leggings. Wrap-arounds, tunics, gowns, loose shirts, and maxi dresses are some of the great options that will look trendy and classy. Avoid wearing unnatural fabrics like georgette, synthetics, and chiffon. To avoid skin infections/rashes you must always wear clean washed clothes during pregnancy.
