<p>Are you pregnant? Then you will have scheduled appointments and screenings with the gynecologist till the baby is born. To identify any potential problems about the health of the unborn child and the mother, prenatal screenings are done by the doctor. Some of the problems that can be identified with such screenings are chromosomal abnormalities, gestational diabetes, or anemia.</p>

<p>Pregnancy screenings are usually conducted in the first, second, and third trimesters. The screening done during the first trimester gives the doctor early information about the health of the child and the risk for chromosome abnormalities.</p>

<p>NT scan report or the Nuchal Translucency scan enables the doctor to get an idea about such abnormalities. This kind of scan is usually done between 11 to 13 weeks of pregnancy. After this period, the tissue becomes thick and is no longer translucent. The results become inconclusive.</p>

<h2><strong>Why is an NT scan conducted?</strong></h2>

<p>When the NT scan is conducted, the pregnant women lie down on the examination table and the technician moves the ultrasound wand over her stomach.</p>

<p>It is recommended that the woman drink water about an hour before conducting the test. A fuller bladder helps provide easier readings. The pregnant woman must wear comfortable clothing during the test as the ultrasound tech will be accessing the lower abdomen.</p>

<p>The results might be given to the woman on the day of the test itself. Or else the doctor might discuss the findings before one leaves the test center. One must remember that getting an abnormal result does not mean that the baby has a chromosomal problem. It is also true that getting normal results also does not ensure that the child will not have Down syndrome.</p>

<p>The test has a five percent false-positive rate. Five percent of pregnant women give birth to normal babies even after getting positive results. If the result is positive, then your doctor might suggest another blood test known as prenatal cell-free DNA screening. It helps to examine the fetal DNA in the blood and helps access the risk of the baby for Down syndrome and other disorders.</p>

In a very small number of pregnancy cases, sonographers find that the baby&#39;s brain, kidneys, and other internal organs are not developed properly. In some very rare and serious cases, doctors find that there is no treatment possible or available. The baby may or will die soon after birth or even inside the womb.</p>

<h2><strong>The procedure and anomaly scan time duration</strong></h2>

<p>The 5th-month anomaly scan test will be performed by a certified and trained professional known as a sonographer. The room where the test will take place will have a dim light so that the sonographer can take good pictures of the baby.</p>

<p>The mother will be asked to lie on a couch and uncover the whole abdomen. The sonographer can be male or female but there will be a female attendee for sure. A soft and sober gell will be applied on the whole abdomen of the mother. The gel basically helps in the smooth gliding of the anomaly scan test probe. Apart from this, the gel also ensures that there is the required contact between the probe and the skin of the abdomen. A black and white image of the baby will appear on the ultrasound screen. <p>If you want to know the sex of your baby, you can ask the sonographer at the beginning. But revealing the sex of the baby is restricted in some countries before the birth. For example, before birth, it is not permissible in India.</p>

<p>But you cannot bring children with you as most hospitals do not allow children to be present inside the scanning room. You can ask the hospital while scheduling the appointment.</p>

<p>It&rsquo;s completely your choice whether you want this test or not. Generally, this scanning procedure does not hurt or harm anyone. There is no such evidence found in studies. The process is quite painless. The mother will just feel a bit pressure via the probe.</p>

Abnormalities in blood, such as high or low amounts of a tiny hormone, might have serious repercussions. HCG can detect various abnormalities and growths in the body, including tumours.</p>

<p>Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone whose presence confirms a woman&#39;s pregnancy or if the baby inside has any kind of congenital disabilities. It also indicates if the reason behind the tumour is related to the hormone HCG.</p>

<p>In most cases, HCG levels let a doctor determine whether or not a woman has any abnormal growths resulting from abnormalities in the egg or sperm.</p>

<h2><strong>What is Blood Beta HCG Test?</strong></h2>

<p>Blood Beta HCG Test is a blood test that evaluates the concentration of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). An elevated amount of this hormone, produced as early as 10 days after conception, can prove pregnancy.</p>

<p>It can also be used to evaluate fertility treatments (synthetic HCG hormone is occasionally used to assist mature follicles and promote ovulation) and when there is a worry that anything could be amiss with a pregnancy.</p>

<h2><strong>Types of HCG Blood Tests</strong></h2>

<p>There are two ways in which a beta HCG test for pregnancy is performed- A urine test and a Blood test. The hCG blood tests can be divided into:</p>

<h3><strong>HCG Quantitative Test</strong></h3>

<p>An HCG Quantitative Test will help you know the exact quantity of HCG hormone in your blood. This test can also be referred to as Repeat Quantitative HCG Test or Quantitative Pregnancy Blood Test. This test could also help diagnose a few types of cancers but rare cases. The blood test guarantees that pregnant women do not undergo any treatments that could harm the foetus, such as X-Rays, MRIs, and Spinal testing.</p>

<p>Analysing the HCG levels in your blood can assist identify any issues, such as an impending miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. Indeed, HCG Quantitative blood tests can estimate the child&#39;s age and identify disorders like Down syndrome or Edwards syndrome.</p>

<h3><strong>HCG Qualitative Blood Test </strong></h3>

<p>In contrast to the HCG Quantitative test, this test will tell if there is any amount of HCG hormone present in your blood at all. An HCG Qualitative blood test will not inform you about your blood&#39;s exact quantity of HCG. This is usually done before HCG Quantitative test and is usually the first step in confirming pregnancy. Here are a few other names by which HCG Qualitative test is known:</p>

<h2><strong>HCG Urine Test </strong></h2>

A fertilised egg attaches to the uterine wall about 10 days after conception, triggering a shift in hormone levels. An initial urine sample is taken to determine whether the woman is expecting. It is common for HCG-based pregnancy kits to be available at home. A blood test is significantly more accurate than a urine or stool test, and these tests are known to produce inaccurate findings.</p>

<p>This test can only give you results post one or two weeks after the egg fertilises. You can consider the HCG urine test similar to qualitative blood HCG as it only shows the presence of the HCG hormone but doesn&#39;t clarify the exact quantity of the same.</p>

<h2><strong>When Are Blood Beta HCG Tests Used?</strong></h2>

<p>If you have already confirmed pregnancy using the pregnancy test kit or if you want to confirm pregnancy within 10-12 days of conception, you can do so by getting a beta HCG test done when you go to your doctor. However, regular pregnancies do not necessitate the use of the beta HCG test results. Many practitioners employ transvaginal ultrasound to see the pregnancy (the gestational sac) instead at your regular pregnancy confirmation visits.</p>

<p>One good thing about beta HCG test for pregnancy is that it can detect pregnancy complications such as miscarriages. If this is the case, your doctor will repeat these tests once every two-four days to check the speed at which the hCG levels rise.</p>

<p>The pace of increase rather than the actual amount of hormone in the blood is more telling early in pregnancy. A high likelihood of miscarriage may be indicated by HCG levels that grow slowly.</p>
