Causes of ear infection during pregnancy
An ear infection during pregnancy can be annoying and can be a result of fungal infection, a wax build-up or due to ear pressure.
Ear infection usually happens due to fungal infection. It majorly attacks the middle ear located behind the ear drum and results in inflammation of the area. Ear infections can turn chronic if left uncared for and can cause permanent damage.
Causes of infection
Ear infections may occur due to the presence of pathogens such as bacteria which can find their way in and might cause common troubles such as cold, allergy, sinus infection and swollen adenoid glands resulting in inflammation.
Some of the other causes of infection include the build-up of ear wax and pressure created while sleeping on a particular side.
Checking for Symptoms of ear infection
If you are having the following symptoms, an ear infection cannot be ruled out:
Loss of hearing
Headache
Fluid discharge from ear
Swelling in the inner ear
Ear-aches
Feeling of throbbing inside the ear
Treating ear infections during pregnancy
Home remedies which you can try to relieve the pain include the following:
1. Salt bag: Ear-ache which are a result of cold or sinus can be treated by placing a warm bag of salt near the infected area. This remedy works as a hot compress. To undertake this procedure, take 2 Tbsp of salt in a pan and heat it. Using a cotton cloth, make a pack of the salt and place it near the ear. Dab it till the presence of heat is over.
2. Garlic oil: As it has anti-bacterial properties which can treat ear infection, you can put a few drops in the infected ear using a dropper. It is considered a safe remedy to deal with infections.
3. Taking steam: Steam inhalation can also help loosen up the mucus resulting in easing of pain and infection caused because of cold or sinus.
4. Apple cider Vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is known to be a good fighter against fungus. You can take one teaspoon, mix it with water and use a cotton bud to dab the mixture and put it over the infected area.
Let it sit there for around 10-15 minutes and then remove.
