5 Effective Remedies for Women Suffering With Cracked Nipples

    Updated on 3 November 2023

Often, new and first-time moms face common issues like pain and cracked nipples due to breastfeeding. And you don’t even know what to do about it. Consulting a doctor is one great tip but there should always be immense care that should be taken.

In this article, we bring you five effective remedies that can help heal cracked nipples.

5 Effective Remedies to Heal Cracked Nipples

Here are five effective remedies that can help heal and soothe cracked nipples:

    1. Applying ice

We all have used this remedy on several wounds. Remember the time you suffered inflammation and you applied ice? Applying ice firstly numbs the area making it feel less painful. Secondly, it will help in feeding the baby if you apply it before that.

    2. Applying breast milk

The most natural thing to soothe cracked nipples is to apply breast milk. Milk as a substance is used in many skin-care recipes as it is moisturizing and nourishing. In addition to that, breast milk is antibacterial which can prove to be even more beneficial. It possesses healing properties and contains various nutrients that help to soothe cracked nipples.

Apply it on your nipples after washing your hands and leave it for a few minutes. Allow it to dry and rinse it off.

    3. Warm water to the rescue

After breastfeeding, gently massage your nipples with warm water using a soft cotton cloth. This will soothe the cracked nipples and reduce the pain.

    4. Apply a soothing and nourishing balm or cream

Cracked nipples become even more painful when dry. In such a case, moisturizing them is the best solution. Apply a cream that contains nourishing ingredients and no harsh chemicals. One such product is the Mylo Care Nipple Butter Cream. It is 100 per cent natural and Made Safe Australia Certified. It has healing substances like turmeric, kokum butter, cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, calendula, vitamin e, olive oil, organic beeswax and sunflower oil. It also contains other ingredients like coconut oil, sunflower oil, olive oil and more, that help to nourish the skin.

    5. Hot oil massage

Oil massages are always done to soothe, moisturize and nourish the skin. Heating up the oil a little bit will relieve your skin. You can go for any nourishing oil and apply it. Don’t forget to wash it off before breastfeeding your baby. You can also use ghee to massage your nipples.

Apart from the above remedies, you can also use this simple tip – feed your baby from one breast for 10 minutes and then switch to the other side. This helps to avoid putting extra pressure on one side and also ensures regular emptying of breasts.
