Top 5 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Acne from the Skin

    Updated on 3 November 2023

Having flawless skin is something that everyone wants, but unfortunately, not everyone has one. Many people suffer from acne, which can be found on various body parts such as the face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders. Acne is caused by increased oil production in the glands, leading to pimples and blemishes. Hormonal changes can also be a cause of acne. However, different methods can be adopted for acne treatment.

    Types of Acne

One can develop different types of acne, which can vary in severity. More severe types of acne must be treated medically under the supervision of a dermatologist. Before jumping into acne treatment, discerning the exact type of acne that one is suffering from is important.

    1. Non-Inflammatory Acne

Non-inflammatory acne, as the name suggests, does not cause swelling and can be treated easily. These can occur in the form of,

    • Open comedones

A combination of dead skin cells and sebum cause the pores on the skin to clog, causing open comedones or what is popularly known as blackheads. While the rest of the pore clogs, the top of it remains open, rendering the colour black.

    • Closed comedones

Unlike blackheads, closed comedones or whiteheads cause the entire pore to clog, including the lid. It makes the skin protrude at the top, forming a bump.

    2. Inflammatory Acne

In addition to dead skin cells and sebum, bacteria play a significant role in producing inflammatory acne. These are of four types -

    • Papules

Papules are small, hard bumps that form on the skin when the walls surrounding the pores break down due to severe inflammation. These clogged pores are often tender to the touch, and the skin around them is usually pink.

    • Pustules

Pustules can also form when the walls around your pores break down. Unlike papules, pustules are filled with pus. These bumps come out from the skin and are usually red. They often have yellow or white heads on top.

    • Nodules

Nodules form when clogged, swollen pores irritate and become more extensive. Unlike pustules and papules, nodules are deeper under the skin.

    • Cysts

Cysts are clogged pores that develop deep within the skin when a combination of sebum, bacteria, and dead skin cells block the pore. Nodules are clogged pores but are closer to the skin's surface.

5 Best Natural Remedies for Acne Treatment

Though it may be tempting to "pop" pimples to make them disappear, it is important to resist the urge! Popping pimples can cause more harm than good - when they are squeezed, the oil and dead skin cells are forced deeper into the follicle. This extra pressure can rupture the follicle wall and cause infected materials to spill into the innermost part of the skin. The resulting skin damage can cause tissue loss and acne scars. Fortunately, there are some tried and tested natural methods to treat acne.

    1. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is an old remedy for curing acne. Aloe Vera has anti-bacterial properties, which help to reduce pimples by cooling the skin and reducing inflammation. In addition, it also helps to remove oiliness from the skin.

    2. Toothpaste

Toothpaste can help to dry out and reduce the size of pimples overnight. The silica in toothpaste can help to reduce inflammation and fight acne. It can be applied in small amounts to the affected area and washed off gently in the morning.

    3. Ice

Ice can do wonders for inflammation! Just rubbing one ice cube on the infected area can have cooling and anti-inflammatory effects. The ice will constrict the blood vessels below the skin, making the pimple less red and irritated.

    4. Honey

Honey has a natural antibiotic that can heal acne quickly and effectively. Its stickiness helps to remove excess dirt and impurities from the skin, making it an excellent choice for those with acne-prone skin. Just a drop of honey to the affected area, covered with a bandage before bed, can do the job. The pimple will be gone in the morning, and there will be no scar. For similar results, one can also use a drop of lemon juice on the spot and leave it overnight.

    5. Eggs

Egg whites are an effective remedy for pimples and acne scars. They contain vitamins and amino acids that help rebuild skin cells. One has to apply egg whites to the affected area and wait for them to dry for the best results.

It is thus clear that acne, although painful and persistent at times, can be treated naturally. One needs to have patience and consistency. For more such informative articles, follow the Mylo Family blog.
