What Is the Use of Nursing Pads During & After Your Pregnancy?

    Updated on 3 November 2023

The breastfeeding journey of a mother and her baby is one of the most frustrating, rewarding and cherishing journeys that a mother and her baby undertake together. To ensure that this lovely journey goes as smoothly as possible, pregnant and/or new mothers should invest in feeding essentials such as nursing pads or breastfeeding pads.

    How are breastfeeding pads helpful?

Nursing pads or breastfeeding pads are protective pads, usually made of cloth or composite material, that are placed between the bra and the breast.

    1. Absorb leakage

The main function of nursing pads or breastfeeding pads is to protect the mother’s clothes from milk leakage. Nursing pads or breastfeeding pads absorb milk leaks and ensure that the mother’s breasts and nipples remain clean and dry throughout the day and the night. Since the breast pads soak the excess milk that is being produced, they help to protect the breastfeeding mother’s clothes from wet spots.

    2. Improve the appearance of breasts

Apart from providing protection against milk leaks, breastfeeding pads or nursing pads help to improve the appearance of the lactating mother’s breasts. The pads help to maintain the shape of the breasts and provide support to the breasts by holding and keeping them in place.

    3. Soothe Nipples

Furthermore, breastfeeding pads or nursing pads help to soothe nipples that sometimes become sore due to the constant latching and unlatching by the baby. Breastfeeding pads and nursing pads create a soft layer between the nipples and the bra, which then prevents the nipples from rubbing against the fabric of the bra.

When should you start wearing breastpads during pregnancy?

Nursing pads and breastfeeding pads should usually be worn during the final months of the pregnancy and during the early weeks after delivery. During the final months of pregnancy, the mammary glands present in the breasts start producing colostrum to prepare for the arrival of the baby and this may cause impromptu leaks anytime during the day and the night.

The first few weeks after delivery, the mother’s breasts become engorged because it takes time to establish the breastfeeding relationship between the new mother and her baby-this could cause milk leaks, so it is important to wear breastfeeding pads and nursing pads during this time as well.

Breastfeeding pads and nursing pads should be worn during sex, while sleeping at night and if the lactating mother is producing excess milk. When you know that you are going to be away from your baby for more than 2-3 hours, lactating mothers should wear breastfeeding and nursing pads to protect their clothes against milk leaks.

Mylo’s reusable, washable and dry-feel nursing and breastfeeding pads are an essential item that all pregnant and new mothers should invest in. Mylo’s breastfeeding and nursing pads are made up of three layers-the outer layer is made from breathable and leak-resistant polyurethane laminate, the middle layer is highly absorbent as it is made from micro terry cloth with a non-woven polypropylene and the inner layer is made from a super soft suede since this is the layer that touches the mother’s skin.

The 3D contoured shape of the breastfeeding and nursing pads provides for a comfortable and snug fit that makes the breasts look natural. With a diameter of 4.5 inches, Mylo’s breastfeeding and nursing pads are well-sized to fit cup sizes ranging from B to D. Furthermore, along with two pairs of breastfeeding and nursing pads, Mylo also gives you a free laundry pouch. Lightweight, comfortable and easy to use, Mylo’s breastfeeding and nursing pads are worth buying!
