Your Baby's Development in Week 4
You can expect your little one to gain weight from 100-200 gms a week for the first few months. Formula-fed babies may gain a little more than that. Your 4-week old will likely be able to respond to a loud noise — by startling, crying or quieting. Cooing and smiling will not be far behind ... and you may catch a glimpse of both towards the end of the first month. In the meantime, your baby will continue to communicate through crying. Listen carefully and you’ll be able to decode his different cries. A short and low-pitched cry that has a pleading quality to it usually means “I’m hungry.” A whiny, nasal, continuous cry is baby’s way of telling you he’s overtired or uncomfortable. Bursts of crying alternating with fussy whimpers often signal boredom. The “I’m in pain” cry starts suddenly with a loud, panicked and long wail, followed by repeated pauses and shrieks. Knowing what those whimpers, wails and shrieks mean can help you figure out what your baby is trying to tell you.

Protect your baby's skin

By now it must not be a secret to you that your little munchkin has really delicate skin and it can easily get dry, chapped or irritated. So, don't forget to moisturize your baby's skin daily, especially after baths. Try Mylo Baby Lotion that:

  • Soothes dryness & irritation.
  • Keeps skin moisturized for 24 hours.
  • Nourishes & protects skin.

Watch video on -Postnatal massage for new moms

  • As far as postpartum symptoms go, you might have a case of serious back pain. It comes from toting baby around all day, of course, but you can also blame it on your stretched-out tummy muscles and hormonally loosened ligaments.
  • Your perineal area is still aching and taking its time to get back to normal. It may still be quite swollen from labor and childbirth, and you may continue to have some bleeding.
  • Hold off on vigorous exercise and sex until your practitioner gives you the green light (usually around 4 to 6 weeks postpartum).

What to Expect in Week 4
  • You may notice your little one clamoring for the breast or bottle more often during these spurts (nursing moms call them cluster feedings), and this increase in demand is your little one’s way of fueling the incredible growth that his body is going through.
  • This extra demand may be draining on you, but they usually only last a day or two.
  • A regular, more consistent pattern of feeding will be around the corner.

Activity in Week 4

Massage Feeding: Give baby a little massage on her arms, legs, and back before showing her the nipple or bottle. This helps the baby become more alert. It helps increase the baby’s alertness to help with feeding.
