79 Week Old Baby: Your Baby's Development and Your Recovery This Week
Your baby is 79 weeks old (19 months). Your toddler is getting more confident on their feet, even when the landings aren't graceful. For you, around 18.5 months. Your toddler watches you constantly, and learns more from what you do than what you say. Here is your week, tracked.
Week 79
Your baby is 19 months old
Baby says this week
I love to climb, run, walk and jump on different surfaces Mummy. I now understand a lot of things that are going around in my surroundings. I can speak a few more words and I love to eat colorful fruits with a fork. I can feed myself now by holding a cup, spoon, glass, and fork. I can now walk backward and sideways without your help and support dear Mummy. I can now make a firm grip on the objects and things and can pick up the fallen objects from the ground by squatting.
Your Toddler's Development

Your toddler is getting more confident on their feet, even when the landings aren't graceful.
At around 18–19 months, your toddler can tell you when they need the potty (some of the time), wash and dry their hands with help, and recognise something seen earlier in a picture book. Running is enthusiastic rather than smooth, falls still happen a lot, especially on the turns.
Things that sometimes help- Washable shoes or barefoot on the grass outside, the more real running practice, the better the balance.
- For handwashing, a step stool at the basin, a pump soap they can press, and a short song (your own tune will do) so they learn how long to scrub.
- Let your toddler be your "helper" during chores. Pairing up the socks, carrying the empty basket, stirring the batter.
- Even though your toddler walks, runs and jumps with growing confidence, they don't have full control yet, especially around traffic, open water and stairs. Hold hands in parking lots every single time. The message "look before you run" is years away from landing.
Falls on carpet and grass are part of learning. Falls from a height, down stairs, or onto a hard corner are not, that's what the gates, rugs and corner guards are for.
Watch for after a fall- Vomiting, unusual sleepiness, a swelling that keeps growing, or pupils that look uneven, head to the emergency room. Most bumps just need a cuddle and a cold cloth.
- Smooth marble or kota floors get slippery, a small rug at the play area, soft slippers indoors, and watch for the threshold strip between rooms. Open balconies are the biggest fall risk in Indian flats, grilles right up to ceiling height, always.
Enthusiastic running, ungraceful landings, and a proud little hand-washer at the basin: confidence is being built fall by fall. Every wobble is baby development finding its balance, with you close enough to catch the big ones. Your calm after each tumble teaches them the world is safe to get up in.

Modelling, not preaching
At 18 months, toddlers learn by watching:
- How you handle frustration (slamming a phone vs. a deep breath)
- What you eat (real meals vs. constant snacking)
- How you talk to others (kindly vs. dismissively)
- How you treat your body (with care vs. with neglect)
The pre-school you in front of your toddler is the model they will internalise. No pressure, but worth noticing.
Things that often help
- Talk through tough feelings out loud: "I'm feeling frustrated, I need a moment." Eat your meals at the table, not on the run
- Move your body in front of them, yoga, stretching, dancing in the kitchen
- Apologise when you snap. They learn repair this way.
Eating well
- A balanced thali. Iron, calcium, protein at every meal.
Indian-tradition note
- Many Indian families teach toddlers to greet elders with a namaste. Modelling this, yourself, with relatives, passes it on. Small respectful daily rituals (folding hands at the temple, helping carry dishes) are values delivered in actions, not lectures.
Worth flagging
- If your own behaviour around your toddler concerns you, yelling more than you would like, snapping, harsh tone, hitting yourself when frustrated, please talk to a therapist. CBT and parenting therapy can change patterns within a few months. A trained therapist can help. You are not alone, and you can change this.
Indian-tradition kept
- Doing puja or aarti with toddler watching, helping fold hands at the temple, lighting a small diya together, these small acts pass down values quietly. They are not religious lessons; they are inherited rituals that anchor family identity.
Little eyes are on you all day, and what they mostly see is a woman trying her best with love, which is lesson enough. Parenting a toddler by example is slow, invisible work whose results arrive years later, in a kind word or folded hands at the temple. Be the person you are raising them to be, gently, and forgive yourself the human days.
