6 Week Old Baby: Your Baby's Development and Your Recovery This Week
Your baby is 6 weeks old. Feeding is more predictable now, expect every 3 to 4 hours, a bit longer at night. For you, six weeks in. This is one of the bigger milestones, the postpartum check-up week. Here is your week, tracked.
Week 6
Your baby is 6 weeks old
Baby says this week
At this age, I will flash an adorable gummy grin; that’s my first genuine smile. My eyes will brighten and widen as I move my mouth upwards.

Feeding is more predictable now, expect every 3 to 4 hours, a bit longer at night. Breastfed babies still do best on demand. The big moment this week (if it hasn't already happened): the social smile. Not a windy reflex-smile, a real "hello, I know you" smile, usually for you. Talk, sing, coo back, they're soaking it all in.
You'll also notice hands and feet becoming the most fascinating toys. Sucking on fingers is how babies self-soothe, it's a good thing.
6-week vaccines are due nowBook the pediatrician this week if you haven't already. The India schedule at 6 weeks usually includes:
- DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus)
- Hepatitis B
- OPV or IPV (polio)
- Hib
- PCV (pneumococcal)
- Rotavirus
Expect mild fussiness, low fever, and a sore injection spot for a day or two. If fever crosses 39 °C (102 °F), or your baby becomes very limp, or there's unusual crying for more than 3 hours, call the doctor.
Safe sleep- Back to sleep stays the rule. Most cot deaths happen between 2 and 4 months, so don't relax on this one yet.
- If your baby does not startle at loud sounds, does not turn towards your voice from across the room, or stops babbling, flag at the next pediatrician visit.
The first real smile has a way of repaying every broken night in a single second. Among all the 2 month old baby milestones, this is the one mothers describe years later with the same shine in their eyes, and yours will be no different.

Six weeks in. This is one of the bigger milestones, the postpartum check-up week.
What the 6-week visit usually covers
- Blood pressure, weight, general recovery check
- Examination of the perineum or C-section scar
- Internal exam to confirm uterus has involuted, no infection
- Discussion of contraception (you can ovulate before your first period back)
- Mental health check, bring up anything you have been feeling
- Breastfeeding review, supply, latch, any pain
- Iron and Vit D test if not done already (very common deficiencies in Indian mums)
Bring this list to the visit
- Any heavy bleeding, passing clots, or returning bright-red blood
- Any pain in the scar, breast, or pelvis
- Any urinary leakage when you cough or sneeze (stress incontinence)
- Mood, sleep, anxiety, intrusive thoughts
- Sex, when can it start, what about pain or dryness
- Pelvic floor exercises, get a referral to a pelvic floor physiotherapist if available
Hair fall is normal, and temporary
- Around 3 months postpartum, many mums notice clumps of hair falling out. This is the hair that did not shed during pregnancy thanks to high estrogen. It tapers by 6–9 months and grows back. A gentle warm-oil massage with coconut, almond or amla oil helps soothe scalp and is a long Indian tradition.
Watch for
- Heavy bleeding returning weeks after lochia stopped, fever, sudden severe pain, call your gynae.
A note: the 6-week clearance is a starting line, not a finish line. Healing continues for 6–12 months.
Take notes before the visit
- Sleep is foggy, and you will forget half of what you wanted to ask. A quick list on your phone, bleeding, scar, mood, sleep, sex, contraception, supplements, keeps the visit useful. Most gynaes appreciate a mum who comes prepared.
Speaking honestly in that examination room, about your body, your mood, your questions, is postpartum self care at its bravest. You have spent weeks answering everyone else's needs; this visit is where yours get the microphone.
Care That Grows With You

By week 6, the first nappy rash often appears: pink, slightly raised patches around the bum and thighs from frequent wet nappies. The Indian dadi-fix has always been a clean diaper area + a thin layer of cold-pressed coconut oil. Antibacterial, anti-fungal, soothing. Apply at every change for 2 days. Try Mylo Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil that:
- Soothes Nappy Rash Naturally.
- Antibacterial & Anti-Fungal.
- 100% Pure, Cold-Pressed.
The dadi-fixes you are learning now will one day be the wisdom you pass on. While you tend to your baby with such devotion, let someone tend to you as well; a bit of postpartum self care keeps the caregiver cared for.

Pregnancy Massage Oil + Coconut Oil - 200 ml each

Week 6 is your postnatal checkup. Your gynae will check stitches, blood pressure, and ask the EPDS mood questions. Iron stores often dip after delivery: fatigue and breathlessness are common. A daily wheatgrass scoop is a gentle, plant-based iron top-up alongside your prescribed supplements. Easy add to morning chai-time water, before the household wakes. Try Mylo Wheatgrass Powder that:
- Plant-Based Iron + Folate.
- Eases Fatigue & Breathlessness.
- No Grassy Smell, Smooth Mix.
This checkup week is a milestone for you, not just another appointment on the calendar. Walking in with your questions written down and your worries said out loud is postpartum recovery done bravely; your health is the quiet engine of this new life.

Your Baby's Vision
This week your face stops being a blur. Your baby can finally make out your smile, your eyes, the line of your hair, at least up close during feeds. Those long stares mean something. See below.
Try This : Next feed, just stare back at them. Watch their eyes do tiny laps around your face.
