Your baby is 57 weeks old (14 months). Your toddler is soaking up language like a little sponge this week. For you, around 13 months. The friend you used to text three times a day, when did you last call her? Here is your week, tracked.
Week 57
Your baby is 14 months old
Baby says this week
I love to imitate you. Be aware that I am watching you very closely, so you must always be your best when you're with me.
Your Toddler's Development
2 min read
Your toddler is soaking up language like a little sponge this week.
Around 12–13 months, your toddler may try to copy what you say, mumbling back when you say "I love you", or landing a clear "hello" and "bye" at just the right moment. First words often come out oddly: "ba" for ball, "da" for dog, "doodh" for milk. That still counts as a real word if your toddler uses it the same way for the same thing each time.
Things that sometimes help- Talk about what you're both looking at. If your toddler stares at the fan, say "fan". Shared attention is where language grows fastest.
- Pause after you say something. Little ones need a few seconds to work out a reply.
- Read every day. Board books, flaps, touch-and-feel, anything they'll sit for.
- Resist the urge to constantly test: "What's that? What's that? What's that?" Kids learn better from conversation than quizzing.
- Sing nursery rhymes in your home language too, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, whatever's natural. Bilingual brains do not get confused.
- Most toddlers at this age have 1–3 clear words besides "mama" and "dada", understand simple requests like "give me", and use pointing to tell you what they want.
- If none of those milestones are happening, your toddler doesn't respond to their name, or there's been a regression, mention it at the next pediatrician visit. Early speech-therapy support is far easier when started early.
- Hindi at home with grandparents, English at playgroup, Marathi or Tamil with neighbours, bilingual or trilingual brains do not get confused. Speak to your toddler in whichever language feels most natural, and read aloud in the language you read best.
Every fan and ball and bird you name is a small seed dropped into fertile ground. Language is the part of baby development built almost entirely out of your voice. One day soon, a whole sentence will bloom from the words you planted.
Your Health & Lifestyle

The lonely middle of motherhood
- A baby year shrinks the social world. You are around your child constantly, you're tired, your interests have shifted, and suddenly the friends who knew you pre-baby feel slightly out of reach. This is common and rarely permanent.
Reconnecting in small ways
- Send one voice note a week to a friend you miss, easier than a phone call
- A short walk together when both your toddlers are with caregivers, even 30 minutes
- A WhatsApp group with two or three close mum friends to vent without explaining
- One in-person meet-up a month, even if it's just chai
For solo mums or mums whose partners travel
- Building a chosen family of friends matters more for you. Online Indian mum communities, on Instagram, Facebook groups, or WhatsApp circles, can be lifelines, especially in smaller cities where local mum networks are thinner.
Eating well
- Maintaining real meals helps everything else, energy, mood, social bandwidth. Three meals + two snacks. Boring is fine.
Indian-context note
- In joint families, the "mum-isolation" looks different, you may have many people around but few who are emotionally close. Both setups need active friendship maintenance.
Worth flagging
- If you find yourself feeling lonely most days, going hours without speaking to anyone, or losing interest in people you used to enjoy, that may be PPD or PPA showing up at year 1, not "just the season". Talk to a therapist. A trained therapist can help.
A small habit to build
- One 10-minute phone call a week with one trusted person, sister, mother, friend, done at the same time every week. Predictable connection beats irregular but longer calls. Indian mums often manage this best on a Sunday afternoon while toddler is napping.
Friendship is a quiet kind of medicine for mothers, and reaching for it counts as mother self care. One voice note, one cup of chai, one honest laugh can restore something the long days have worn thin. The friend you miss is probably missing you right back.
Your Care Essentials

Around week 57, many Indian families plan the mundan ceremony: the first ceremonial haircut. After the cut, the scalp is sensitive and exposed. A mild tear-free shampoo with milk protein keeps the scalp clean and soothed without stinging. Try Mylo Tear-Free Shampoo that:
- Tear-Free For Sensitive Scalp.
- Mild Milk Protein Wash.
- Sulphate-Free, Skin-Friendly.
If a mundan is on your calendar, it will be a day of blessings, relatives, and a strangely bare little head you will keep stroking. Amid all the rituals for your child, keep one quiet moment for yourself; you are the thread the whole celebration is strung on.

Week 57: stretch marks are mostly silvery and faint now, and a maintenance routine keeps them light. A bio-oil-style blend with rosehip, vitamin E, and almond oil keeps the skin soft and elastic. Twice daily, becomes part of routine. Try Mylo Stretch Marks Oil that:
- Almond + Rosehip + Marula.
- Lightens Old Stretch Marks.
- Quick Pump, No Mess.
Those silvery lines are softening, and so, hopefully, is the way you speak to yourself about them. The two minutes you spend on this routine are two minutes of remembering your body did something remarkable. Tend to it kindly; it has been very good to you.
