52 Week Old Baby: Your Baby's Development and Your Recovery This Week
Your baby is 52 weeks old (12 months). Happy first birthday, you made it. For you, fifty-two weeks postpartum. Here is your week, tracked.
Week 52
Your baby is 12 months old
Baby says this week
It's my birthday! While you're reveling in the accomplishments and changes I've made since entering your lives last year, I may give you a present of my own: Calling you mama or dada. I'm on the brink of using more words, too, so encourage my interest in language by speaking slowly and clearly.
Your Baby's Development

Happy first birthday, you made it. And so did your baby.
Everything is a science experiment now. What happens if I push this? Throw this? Knock this over, again? This isn't bad behaviour, it's your toddler figuring out cause and effect. The toilet paper roll, the books off the shelf, the food off the highchair, it's all the same curiosity. Supervise, don't stop.
Most babies at 12 months can pull up to stand, walk while holding furniture, say one or two words beyond "mama" and "papa", and understand simple instructions like "come here" or "no". Some are walking fully, some aren't, both are normal.
12-month vaccines are due nowBook the pediatrician for the 1-year visit. The India schedule at 12 months usually includes:
- MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), first dose
- Varicella (chicken pox), first dose
- Hepatitis A, first dose
- PCV booster
- Typhoid (conjugate), sometimes offered
This visit is also a good time to get height, weight, and head circumference checked, and to flag anything that feels off, feeding, sleep, speech, walking. Pediatricians want to hear it, even if it turns out to be nothing.
Worth flagging- If your baby is not lifting their head during tummy time by 3–4 months, or feels unusually limp or unusually stiff, mention it at the next pediatrician visit.
- Around 6–8 months, soft mashed daal-rice, ragi porridge, mashed banana or stewed apple are gentle starter foods. Add a small spoon of ghee for fat absorption. No salt, no sugar, no honey under 12 months.
Happy first birthday to your little scientist, and a quiet, deserved salute to you. Behind every one of these 12 month old baby milestones stands a mother who watched, worried, clapped and carried on. The cake is for the baby; the achievement is very much also yours.
Your Health & Lifestyle

Fifty-two weeks postpartum. One full year. You did it.
The first-year wrap
- Look at your baby. Look at yourself. Both of you have changed enormously in 52 weeks.
A note for you, specifically
You have:
- Healed from one of the most physically demanding things a body can do
- Fed, soothed, carried, stayed up with, and learned to read another human being
- Likely held a household together while doing it
- Almost certainly suppressed your own needs more often than you should have
You deserve real acknowledgment for that, from yourself, from the people around you.
Annual mum checkup, the 1-year version
Book a full gynae visit if you have not. Worth covering:
- Blood pressure, weight (without judgment)
- Pap smear if you are 21+ and not already on schedule
- CBC, ferritin, Vit D, B12, TSH
- Pelvic exam
- Thyroid + autoimmune (postpartum thyroiditis can show up at year 1)
- Mental health check
- Contraception review
Eating well, year 2
- Carry on the basics. The Indian thali is still mum-fuel. Three meals + two snacks. Iron + calcium daily. Vit D supplement if tested low.
Year 2 is gentler in some ways
- Sleep usually improves. Baby becomes a more independent toddler. Bandwidth slowly returns. Use it for yourself as much as for them.
Worth flagging
- If a year of postpartum recovery has not brought back energy, mood, sleep or hair, there is a real medical reason underneath. Anaemia, thyroid, Vit D, untreated PPD, all testable, all treatable.
Indian-mum first-year truth
- You have done a year of work that no manual prepares anyone for. The Indian script, the perfect mum who silently absorbs everything, is generations old and outdated. Naming the work, asking for what you need, treating yourself with the same care you give your child, these are the changes mums of this generation are making. You are part of that.
Reading your own year back, let it truly land: you healed, you fed, you held, you learned a new human by heart. Postpartum self care in year two means keeping some of that devotion for yourself. You spent a year becoming someone's whole world; you are allowed to be your own person too.
Essentials for Your Journey

Week 52: first birthday, possibly mundan, definitely photos. Your baby's face needs gentle care: a baby cream for face that hydrates without breaking out tender cheeks, safe under photo lights, fragrance-free. Use post-bath and before outdoor time. Try Mylo Baby Face Cream that:
- Hydrates Tender Cheeks.
- Fragrance-Free, Safe Daily.
- Photo-Day Smooth Finish.
Between the photos and the rituals, there will be a moment when the room quiets and it is just you and your one-year-old. That is the real celebration. Whatever the pictures capture, the softest glow in them will be the year of love behind your smile.

Baby Cream for Face - 100 gm
Dermatologically Tested | Made Safe Australia Certified | Nourishes & Brightens Skin | Soothes Skin Irritation

One full year postpartum: celebrate the body that brought your baby here. Stretch marks are mostly silvery and faint, and daily cocoa-and-shea cream keeps the skin elastic for the long game. A small daily ritual of self-care is what keeps confidence steady. Cocoa-and-shea over the Indian-summer dryness keeps skin soft. Try Mylo Stretch Marks Cream that:
- Cocoa + Shea Cream.
- Skin Soft, Marks Faint.
- Absorbs Fast, No Shine.
A full year on, those faint silvery lines read like a diary only you can decode. The daily minute you spend on your own skin is a small vote for the woman behind the mother. Keep casting it; she has carried everything this year.
