Week 48
Your baby is 12 months old
Baby says this week
I may or may not be walking yet, but I'm certainly trying to get around. I cruise on furniture, holds your hands while taking steps, and may not even want to sit down. You can help me walk by giving me a sturdy push-pull toy, and placing furniture in strategic areas to encourage me.
Your Baby's Development
2 min read
As the first birthday approaches, your baby is slowly edging into toddlerhood, with lots of little previews.
Over the next few months, you'll see a real surge in independence, in humour, and eventually in words. But your baby is still a baby for now, milestones are a range, not a deadline, and toddlerhood officially starts around 12 months.
Separation anxietyYour baby knows they can do some things on their own now, but may still have big bouts of missing you the moment you leave. This is completely normal and a sign of strong attachment.
- Always say goodbye rather than sneaking off, it builds trust over time
- Keep the goodbye short, warm and upbeat
- If dropping at daycare or with a relative, leave a favourite soft toy or small blanket
- Give yourself a buffer, arriving early lets your baby settle while you're still there
- Most babies this age are eating around three small meals a day, with small snacks in between as your baby is interested. Breastmilk or formula is still doing a lot of the nutrition work. Finger foods now make up the bulk of meals, think family food, cut soft and small, with no added salt or sugar.
Eat together as often as you can. Babies copy what they see on the family plate, so your plate is their best menu.
Foods to avoid until the first birthday- No honey, no cow's milk as a main drink, no whole nuts or whole grapes, no added salt or sugar, no fruit juice in a bottle. Cut round foods (grapes, cherry tomatoes, sausages) lengthways then in half to make them choke-safe.
Saying a warm goodbye instead of slipping away takes an extra minute and sometimes a few tears, but it builds a trust that lasts. These in-between weeks of baby development, no longer quite baby, not yet toddler, are fleeting and precious. You are the safe harbour every little preview returns to.
Your Health & Lifestyle

Forty-eight weeks postpartum. Around 11.5 months. The toddler year is nearly here.
A small mindset shift
- The "baby year" is nearly closed. Your child is becoming a toddler, more independent, more verbal, more opinionated. This is a real transition for you too. The intensity changes, but it does not vanish.
Self-care that scales for the toddler year
The toddler year demands stamina, not sprint energy. Things that help:
- A consistent sleep schedule for yourself, not just for baby
- Movement most days, yoga, walks, light strength work
- A monthly check-in with a friend or therapist about how you are doing
- A quarterly "you" day, a long bath, a salon visit, a book in a quiet café
Indian-context family dynamics
- With baby becoming a toddler, family expectations sometimes shift again. The "ab to baby bada ho gaya" comments, that you should now be "back to normal", working again, having a second baby, doing more, start. None of these are required by your timeline. Your body, your career, your family plan run on your schedule.
Eating well
- Three meals + two snacks. Iron and Vit D especially. A balanced thali at one meal a day covers most bases.
Worth flagging
- Painful breastfeeding (when it had stopped hurting before), milk colour changes, or a lump in the breast that does not go after a feed, book a gynae or breast-clinic visit promptly. Most lumps in BF mums are blocked ducts, but some need ruling out.
Indian-mum micro-self-care
- A hot oil massage on the scalp on Sundays. A cup of haldi-doodh after a hard day. A 5-minute pranayama in the morning. A walk after dinner. None of these need money, equipment, or hours. Building a few of them in slowly is more sustainable than a big new routine.
Closing the baby year is a quiet threshold, and you are crossing it changed and stronger. Stamina for year two is built from the same postpartum recovery basics you already know: rest, movement, real meals, honest check-ins. Build them slowly and kindly; you are in this for the long, beautiful haul.
Care That Grows With You

Around week 48, with thicker winter clothes and longer naps, the bum sweats under the nappy and rashes return. A thin layer of cold-pressed coconut oil at every change creates a natural barrier: antibacterial, anti-fungal, safe even if baby licks it. Indian dadi's first nappy-rash remedy. Try Mylo Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil that:
- Natural Anti-Rash Barrier.
- Food-Safe If Baby Licks Skin.
- Indian Dadi-Approved Recipe.
There is something touching about reaching for the same remedy your dadi trusted; care in your family travels down through hands. As you protect that little body through the season, spare a warm thought for your own. A moment of postpartum self care, even one deep breath at the changing mat, keeps the caregiver cared for.

Pregnancy Massage Oil + Coconut Oil - 200 ml each

Week 48: 11 months on, your stretch marks are nearly faded but the long-game keeps them lighter. A bio-oil-style blend with rosehip, vitamin E, and almond keeps the skin elastic and the marks softer. Twice daily, soon part of routine. Try Mylo Stretch Marks Oil that:
- Vitamin E For Elasticity.
- Maintains Faint Marks.
- Belly, Hips & Thighs.
Eleven months on, this small twice-daily ritual has become less about the marks and more about the pause. Tending your skin is a quiet chapter of postpartum recovery that belongs only to you. Two unhurried minutes with yourself, morning and night, is a promise worth keeping.
