39 Week Old Baby: Your Baby's Development and Your Recovery This Week
Your baby is 39 weeks old (9 months). Your baby's brain is wiring up at a staggering rate this week. For you, thirty-nine weeks postpartum. Here is your week, tracked.
Week 39
Your baby is 9 months old
Baby says this week
If it seems to you that I'm always sticking something into my mouth, you're probably right. Babies between the ages of 8 to 12 months spend at least 20 percent of their waking hours either gumming, turning over, or banging small objects.
Your Baby's Development

Your baby's brain is wiring up at a staggering rate this week.
A lot is happening in the frontal lobe, the part of the brain behind the forehead that handles movement, personality and emotion. You can feed this development with the simplest things: reading, singing, talking and playing alongside your baby.
Personality showing up- Your baby's own personality is beginning to shine through. Some are social butterflies who smile at everyone; some watch quietly before warming up; some get loud with excitement. There's no "right" temperament, yours is exactly what they're supposed to be.
- Narrate what your baby is doing. "You're looking at the cat. The cat is soft."
- Read the same favourite books again and again, repetition is how little brains learn.
- Get on the floor and let your baby lead play for a few minutes a day.
- Short bursts of outdoor time do wonders, different textures, sounds and light.
- This is when MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) first dose is given in India. Some pediatricians schedule it a week or two before or after, follow your baby's vaccination card. Mild fever or fussiness for 24 to 48 hours after is normal.
- Fever above 39 °C (102 °F), very limp and hard to wake, or unusual crying for more than 3 hours, call the doctor right away.
- Pulling up and cruising along furniture, pointing at things, early waves or claps, trying simple words or animal sounds. If your baby is not making eye contact, responding to their name, or babbling, flag it at the next pediatrician visit.
All those songs and floor games are shaping a little mind in ways you cannot see but will one day hear. The quiet magic of baby development is that its main ingredient is simply you. Whatever temperament your baby shows, it bloomed in the warmth you built.
Your Health & Lifestyle

Thirty-nine weeks postpartum. Almost the end of month 9. Your baby is changing fast, but so is your relationship with your own body and energy.
A 9-month body check
Most postpartum bodies have done the bulk of their healing by now. What's still in flux:
- Hair fall is tapering
- Skin is starting to settle
- Joints are firming back up (hormones from pregnancy that loosened ligaments are nearly gone)
- Pelvic floor, depends on how much attention you have given it
A note on weight
- By 9 months, many Indian mums are still 3–7 kg above pre-pregnancy weight. That is normal. Weight comes off gradually over 12–18 months when you eat well, sleep when you can, and breastfeed (which itself burns 300–500 cal a day). Diets that promise fast loss in this window often backfire, milk supply, energy, and mood all drop.
A different metric
Try checking how your body feels rather than what it weighs:
- Can you carry the baby up a flight of stairs without catching your breath?
- Are you sleeping when you do get the chance?
- Are mood, energy, hair, skin slowly returning?
Indian foods that support energy
- Bajra/ragi rotis, dal-chawal with ghee, curd-rice, kala chana, soaked almonds, dates, milk with haldi.
Worth flagging
- Sudden weight loss without trying, persistent fatigue, racing heart, hair fall that is dramatic, feeling unusually warm or cold, ask your gynae for a thyroid (TSH) panel. Postpartum thyroiditis is common in Indian women and very treatable.
An honest note on Indian-family weight comments
- Aunties, mothers-in-law, even your own mother may comment on weight. The cultural script is old; their love is usually real. A gentle "I am eating well and recovering well" closes most conversations. The body's job at 9 months postpartum is healing, not aesthetic compliance.
Your body is settling into its own new rhythm, in its own time. A kind, unhurried diet after delivery serves you far better than any crash plan ever could. Measure this year in strength gained, not inches lost.
Your Care Essentials

Around week 39, your baby is cruising along furniture, pulling up, and changes happen on the move. Pant-style L diapers go on standing: no taping, no battles. Stretch waist, dry-touch core, 12-hour hold. Try Mylo Pant Diapers L that:
- Stretch Waist, Active-Friendly.
- 12-Hour Dry-Touch Core.
- Slips On Standing.
A cruising baby means a mother always in motion. Between the chases and the changes, steal a minute to sit and just watch them go. This busy, beautiful stage is passing through your hands right now.

By week 39, hair fall has settled to normal shedding (50–100 a day). Continuing weekly onion + bhringraj massage keeps the regrowth coming in stronger and the scalp cool. 30 minutes before wash, massage with fingertips. Try Mylo Onion Hair Oil that:
- Indian Onion + Bhringraj Mix.
- Cools Scalp, Soothes Itch.
- Finger-Massage 5 Minutes.
New baby hairs at your crown are tiny flags of a body finding its way back. Your weekly oil ritual is a promise to yourself, kept one massage at a time. Let it be your unhurried corner in a busy week.
