Week 36
Your baby is 9 months old
Baby says this week
Now I can create memories from my experiences. I might look at a ball, remember how it moves, then push it. I'm even able to set goals for myself, like making noise from a pan by crawling to it and banging it with a spoon.
Your Baby's Development

Your baby's babbling is starting to sound a lot more like real words this week.
Listen to your baby's babble now and you'll hear two-syllable strings with rising and falling tones that really could be sentences. Understanding is racing ahead of speaking, your baby probably knows their own name, "no", "come here", and simple questions like "do you want more?". Personality is peeking through more clearly too.
Things that sometimes help- Narrate constantly. "Now we're putting on shoes. First the left one. Now the right."
- Use real words, not babytalk. It's fine to repeat back your baby's "bah-bah" once, then model "bottle".
- Read simple books with big pictures. Point to each picture and name it.
- Leave pauses for your baby to answer.
- Stranger anxiety often peaks between 8 and 10 months. Your baby may suddenly cry, hide their face or cling to you when a relative or neighbour tries to say hello. It's a sign of healthy attachment, not bad manners. Give your baby time, let them watch from your arms before anyone tries to hold them, and let them come to the new person in their own time.
- Pincer grasp is sharpening, small finger foods are perfect practice.
- Pulling up to stand and cruising along furniture may be starting.
- Some babies say their first real word (usually "mama", "dada" or a simple object name) around now. Many don't. Both are normal.
- Around 6–8 months, soft mashed daal-rice, ragi porridge, mashed banana or stewed apple are gentle starter foods. Add a small spoon of ghee for fat absorption. No salt, no sugar, no honey under 12 months.
Two-syllable babbles today, full sentences before you know it. Language is the most musical part of baby development, and yours is the voice conducting it. Keep narrating, keep pausing, keep listening; your baby is answering in their own way.
Your Health & Lifestyle

Thirty-six weeks. Around 9 months. Your baby is more verbal, more mobile, more aware. Their world is widening, and so can yours, slowly.
The nine-month check on the baby is also a check on you
- At the 9-month visit, your pediatrician focuses on baby, but it is a good moment for you to take stock too. Have you had your own gynae visit recently? Bloodwork? Mental health check? If "no" to any of those, this is the nudge.
Common Indian-mum nutrient gaps at 9 months
- Iron, affects energy, mood, hair.
- Vitamin D, affects mood, sleep, bone health.
- Vitamin B12, common in vegetarians, affects energy and nerves.
- Calcium, bone health, especially while breastfeeding.
A standard panel (CBC, ferritin, Vit D, Vit B12, TSH) costs around 1500–2500 INR at most labs. Worth it.
Eating to support yourself
By 9 months, you are still feeding the baby plus often still breastfeeding. The mum-fuel still matters:
- A protein and a vegetable at every meal
- Iron + Vit C together (palak with lemon, dal with tomato) for absorption
- Soaked almonds, dates, coconut water as natural snacks
Worth flagging
- If you have not yet returned to your gynae since the 6-week postpartum visit, please book one. A "well mum" visit catches small things before they become big. Late postpartum hemorrhage, untreated PPD, anaemia, and pelvic floor issues are all things easier to treat early.
A short note on rest
- Sleep is medicine. So is rest without sleep, sitting silently for 10 minutes, lying with eyes closed but not asleep, a 15-minute meditation. The body recovers in many states beyond sleep. If full sleep is not happening, find rest in smaller pieces.
You have spent these months feeding, lifting, and loving, and your own tank needs filling too. A thoughtful diet after delivery is not fuss; it is the foundation you stand on. Book that check-up, eat that proper meal, and count yourself among the people you care for.
Care That Grows With You
By week 36, the front molars start their slow push: bigger ache than the central teeth, longer chewing sessions. A multi-texture chilled silicone teether (ridges, soft beads, smooth sides) gives the back gums something firm to bite. BPA-free. Try Mylo Silicone Teether that:
- Chilled, Soothes Molar Ache.
- Multi-Texture For Back Gums.
- BPA-Free, Easy Grip.
Teething weeks can be long for both of you. While you soothe those sore gums, remember your own comfort counts too; a warm cup of chai and a quiet breath are small acts of postpartum self care. Tender days pass more gently when you are kind to yourself.

Week 36: peak fall is over, baby hairs are visible at the crown and hairline. The new regrowth is fragile and tangles easily: a gentle onion-based conditioner detangles without breaking new hair. Sulphate-free, silicone-free. Use after every wash for the rest of the year. Try Mylo Onion Hair Conditioner that:
- Detangles New Regrowth.
- Sulphate & Silicone Free.
- Strengthens New Hair Strands.
Those fragile new strands at your hairline are quiet signs of postpartum recovery doing its patient work. Treating them gently is a way of honouring how far you have come. Your hair care minutes are yours; guard them warmly.
