Week 33
Your baby is 8 months old
Baby says this week
I have my own opinions now, and I'll be sure to let you know what I like and what I don't like. Though it might be unnerving, bear in mind that I'm experimenting with my emotions and learning how to control my environment.
Your Baby's Development
2 min read
Your baby has a new favourite science experiment: what happens if I drop this?
Your baby is exploring objects by shaking, banging, dropping and throwing them, and, of course, still testing everything on the gums. It looks like chaos but it's serious learning: cause and effect, object permanence, grip strength and hand-eye coordination all at once.
Things that sometimes help- Rotate toys. If your baby seems bored with everything, put half the toys away for a few weeks. When they come back out, they feel brand new.
- Offer "real" objects. A wooden spoon and a steel katori is often a bigger hit than an expensive toy.
- Make a "yes drawer" in the kitchen, a low drawer with safe things your baby can pull out and explore while you cook.
- Walk around your house on hands and knees and look at it from your baby's view.
- Cabinet locks on anywhere that holds cleaning products, medicines or sharp tools
- Outlet covers on sockets at baby height
- Table-corner bumpers on sharp coffee-table edges
- Cords from blinds and curtains tied up well out of reach (they are a strangulation risk)
- Nothing small enough to fit inside a toilet-paper roll left on the floor, that's the choking-size test.
The kitchen-floor concerts of banging katoris are the sound of a mind at work. What looks like chaos is honest baby development, curiosity running its experiments in your safe home. You built the lab; the little scientist is thriving in it.
Your Health & Lifestyle

Thirty-three weeks postpartum. Around 8 months. Your baby is curious, busy, and rapidly learning that other people exist, including the ones who walk away.
Stranger anxiety, for both of you
- Around 7–9 months, many babies cling harder to mum, cry when handed to relatives, hide their face from strangers. This is healthy attachment, not "spoiled". Indian joint families, festivals, weekend gatherings can feel overwhelming for baby, and for you, when relatives say "let me hold the baby" and the baby cries.
Things that often help
- Hold the baby close while a new person says hello. Let baby look from a safe distance.
- Do not force handovers if baby is fussing, say "they are warming up, give them a minute".
- Keep a security item (a familiar cloth, a soft toy) handy in unfamiliar settings.
Indian festival season tips for mum
- Loud sounds (firecrackers, dhol) are stressful for babies, protect ears with a soft cloth or move to a quieter room.
- Sweets are tempting but sugar before age 1 is best avoided. Stick to small amounts of fruit puree.
- Late nights = cranky days. Plan an early exit if needed.
Mum's own intake during festivals
- Indian festival eating (mithai, fried snacks, late dinners) is part of the season, enjoy in moderation. A glass of jeera water or chai with ajwain after heavy meals helps digestion.
Worth flagging
- If your baby is unusually quiet, refusing feeds, or has a fever after a long crowded gathering, pediatrician visit is sensible. Babies pick up infections faster than adults at this age.
A note on family gatherings
- If a relative says something hurtful about your body, your parenting, or your baby's pace, you do not have to engage. A polite "thanks for your concern" closes most conversations. You can also lean on your partner, sibling or a close friend at the gathering for backup.
Festival crowds, clingy cuddles, and watchful relatives can leave you drained by evening. Protecting your energy in these seasons is part of postpartum recovery too, not rudeness. Hold your baby close, hold your boundaries kindly, and let the celebrations fit around you both.
Your Care Essentials

By week 33, the pre-bath oil malish has stuck as a daily ritual: warm oil, slow strokes, soft humming. A cold-pressed almond + sesame + avocado blend is light enough for summer, rich enough for AC dryness. Try Mylo Herb Enriched Baby Massage Oil that:
- Almond + Sesame Indian Blend.
- Cold-Pressed, No Mineral Oil.
- Daily Pre-Bath Ritual.
Warm oil, slow strokes, and your soft humming, your baby knows this ritual by heart now. Those pre-bath minutes are a language of love spoken through your hands. May they steady your breath as much as they soothe your baby.

Week 33: heat rashes and prickly skin are common, especially under the breasts and along the back of the neck. Pure organic aloe vera gel (refrigerated) cools instantly, calms inflammation, and is safe to use as face moisturiser, scalp soother, even on mild sunburn. Like the cooling effect of khus or chandan in Indian summer. Try Mylo Aloe Vera Gel that:
- 100% Organic, Pure Gel.
- Calms Chapped Lips & Patches.
- Multi-Use For Mom + Toddler.
Prickly summer skin deserves cool relief, and so does a busy mum. A chilled dab of comfort is a small kindness you can give yourself daily. The season is easier when you are on your own side.

Your Baby's Vision
Your baby's spatial sense is sharper than ever. They can sense corners, edges, the ceiling above. The room finally feels like a real room. See the comparison below.
Try This : Lift them up high near the ceiling. They'll look around like they're scanning a new world.
