You may have noticed me dropping things on the floor. This action teaches me about cause and effect. When I get the response I expect, it reinforces my understanding of how the world works.
Your Baby's Development

At 6 months, your baby is growing steadily and getting really into food, well, sometimes.
By now, your baby is probably taking around 500–700 ml of breast milk or formula a day, plus a couple of small solid meals. Amounts vary wildly, anything from a teaspoon to several tablespoons per meal is normal, and appetite changes day to day. Most babies weigh somewhere between 6 and 9 kg and measure around 63 to 72 cm at 6 months, ranges are wide, so what matters most is steady gain on your baby's own growth chart.
Milestones showing up around now- Sitting: roughly half of babies can sit unsupported around 6.5 months.
- Reaching and raking: your baby can grab a toy and pass it from one hand to the other.
- Rolling and rocking on hands and knees in prep for crawling.
You've been at solids for a few weeks now, so this is a good time to start thickening up the textures. Move from smooth puree to coarse mash, then to soft lumps your baby can gum. Skipping this texture step often leads to fussy eating later.
- Soft-cooked dal, khichdi, or ragi porridge with a little ghee
- Well-cooked rice mashed with dal
- Mashed banana, steamed sweet potato, ripe avocado, mashed cooked apple
- Small pieces of soft paneer or ripe pear
- No honey (botulism risk), no cow's milk as a main drink, no whole nuts or grapes, no added salt or sugar.
Every spoonful accepted and every spoonful flung is part of the same wonderful learning curve. The charts list 7 month old baby milestones, but the real story is written in giggles at mealtime and little fists full of khichdi. You are the steady constant behind every wobbly new skill.
Your Health & Lifestyle

Twenty-seven weeks postpartum. Around the 6-month mark, baby's mobility starts shifting things at home in real ways.
Childproofing, the Indian-home version
- Your baby will be crawling soon if not already. Walk through your house at baby's eye level and look for hazards. Indian homes have a few extras to watch:
- Stair gates at top and bottom, heavy in Indian homes with terrace access.
- Open balconies, grilles right up to ceiling height. The biggest fall risk in Indian flats.
- Electrical outlets, the open Indian socket design is a real risk; cover with safety plugs.
- Hot diya, agarbatti, oil lamps during pujas, keep well out of reach during festive periods.
- Pressure cooker handles, gas knobs, never on the front edge of the platform.
- Loose tile edges, kota stone joints, check for sharp corners.
Your own body at 6 months
- Pelvic floor, abdominals, back muscles are all still recovering. Heavy lifting (a 7+ kg baby) without core support takes a toll. Bend with the knees, not the back. If you have any urinary leakage, pelvic floor PT is genuinely worth a visit.
Eating for sustained energy
- At 6 months, many mums slip into chai-and-biscuit days. Try to swap one biscuit-snack a day for a real one, a paratha, a paneer roll, a bowl of curd-rice with achaar, a banana with a few almonds.
Worth flagging
- If your baby falls and you see vomiting, unusual sleepiness, a soft-spot bulge, or pupils that look uneven, go to the emergency room. Most knocks are minor, but head injuries in babies can hide behind a quiet face.
One small ritual
- A daily 5-minute self-check at the same time each day, when baby is sleeping, or after the morning feed, keeps you tracking your own basics. How am I sleeping? Eating? Feeling? It is only when you check that you can act on what is slipping.
Crawling season will turn your home upside down in the best possible way. As you kneel at baby height checking corners, remember your own postpartum recovery is still underway too: lift with care, rest without apology, ask for help freely. The home is being made safe for the baby; keep it gentle for yourself as well.
Your Care Essentials

Around week 27, your baby is on solids and stools change colour, smell and acidity: the bum often gets a fresh rash. Indian gharelu-nuskha: a thin layer of cold-pressed coconut oil at every change. Antibacterial, soothing, safe to ingest if licked. Cheaper and gentler than zinc creams. Try Mylo Cold-Pressed Coconut Oil that:
- Calms Solids-Stage Bum Rash.
- Antibacterial, Indian Tradition.
- Pure Cold-Pressed, No Refining.
A grandmother's remedy in your hands connects your baby to generations of mothers who soothed exactly this way. Trust the wisdom you are gathering change by change; nobody on earth knows this little body better than you.

Pregnancy Massage Oil + Coconut Oil - 200 ml each

Six months in, postpartum hair fall has plateaued and the baby hairs are pushing through your hairline (fine, fluffy, almost translucent). Continued root nourishment now sets up stronger long-term regrowth. Twice-weekly onion + bhringraj massage, leave on 30 minutes. Try Mylo Onion Hair Oil that:
- Pure Onion-Bhringraj Roots.
- Maintains Hair Strength.
- 30 Min Before Wash.
Those fine new baby hairs along your hairline are your body quietly writing its comeback story. Let the oiling ritual be less about the mirror and more about half an hour that is wholly, unapologetically yours.
