25 Week Old Baby: Your Baby's Development and Your Recovery This Week

Your baby is 25 weeks old (6 months). Weaning is in full swing now, and so are the questions, and the mess. For you, twenty-five weeks. Six months postpartum. Here is your week, tracked.

Week 25

Your baby is 6 months old

Baby says this week

Some of my big achievements, sitting, crawling, walking, occur at vastly different rates over the next several months. I may be more steady when trying to sit, but probably still need help. Prop me up with a few pillows to cushion any falls.

Your Baby's Development

2 min read

Weaning is in full swing now, and so are the questions, and the mess.

First foods bring a whole set of what-ifs. Do spoons need sterilising? Is it normal for stools to change colour and smell? Why won't your baby eat anything lumpy today when yesterday they loved it? All of this is normal. Keep offering a variety of textures and flavours, and try not to take rejection personally, taste preferences at this age shift by the hour.

If your baby goes to daycare or meets lots of other children
  • Mixing with other little ones is brilliant for early social skills, but it also means more sniffles, colds and tummy bugs. Most mild infections pass on their own in a few days, and each one gives the immune system a bit more practice, but that doesn't mean every fever is fine.
When to see the doctor

Call your pediatrician the same day if your baby:

  • Has a fever over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), and get urgent care for any fever in a baby under 3 months.
  • Is breathing fast, noisily or pulling in at the ribs.
  • Is very limp and hard to wake.
  • Has fewer than 4 wet nappies in 24 hours, or a sunken soft spot on top of the head.
  • Has blood in stool or vomit, or won't keep fluids down.
  • Has a rash that doesn't fade when you press a glass against it.

Hang in there, the first winter with a baby really does feel like back-to-back colds.

Vision check worth flagging
  • A steady squint past 4 months, eyes that do not track moving things, a white reflection in flash photos, or pupils that do not react to light, get an eye check.

Weaning mess, sniffly weeks, shifting appetites: this stretch asks for a special kind of steadiness, and you keep finding it. Even the untidy chapters are part of baby development, and your calm through them teaches resilience by example. The kitchen floor will be clean again someday; the closeness is the part to keep.

Twenty-five weeks. Six months postpartum. Past the half-year mark.

A reality check

By now you should have had at least two gynae visits (6-week + one follow-up) and ideally a full bloodwork panel. If you have not, please book one. Indian postpartum mums commonly run low on:

  • Iron / ferritin (anaemia)
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin B12 (especially if vegetarian)
  • Thyroid imbalance (postpartum thyroiditis affects 5–10% of mums)

All four show up as exhaustion, low mood, hair fall, brain fog, and all four are easily treated.

Eating well, Indian-mom edition

  • Three proper meals + two snacks. Cutting carbs or skipping meals to lose weight tends to backfire, your energy and milk supply both dip.
  • Iron: bajra, ragi, palak, methi, dates, jaggery, kala chana
  • Calcium: curd, paneer, milk, ragi, sesame
  • B12: dairy, eggs, B12 tablet if your gynae has tested low
  • Vit D: sunlight 15 min/day, fortified milk, supplement

Re-examine your standards

  • If your house is still untidy, your sleep is still patchy, your sex life is still figuring itself out, that is normal at 6 months. Anyone telling you otherwise is comparing wrong.

Worth flagging

  • A persistent low mood, a sense of going through the motions, anxiety that does not switch off, at 6 months these are PPD/PPA, not "just settling in". Treatment works.

A short note on weight

  • By 6 months postpartum, many Indian mums are still 5–10 kg above their pre-pregnancy weight. That is normal. Weight comes off slowly over 12–18 months when you are eating well, sleeping when you can, and breastfeeding (which itself burns 300–500 cal/day).

The kindest thing you can do

  • Give your body 12 months before judging it. It is still healing, still feeding, still recovering.

Feeding yourself well is an act of mothering too, because your baby's world runs on your strength. A thoughtful diet after delivery is less about rules and more about respect for a body that is still giving so much. Speak to yourself the way you would to a dear friend: patiently, and with pride.

Baby Sipper - 150ml (Green)

By week 25, your baby is starting to grab and mouth objects: a good time to introduce a small spill-free sipper. The 150ml size is right for tiny hands, soft soft-tip nozzle is gentle on gums, easy-flow valve prevents flooding. Indian mums use sippers between bottle and open cup. Try Mylo Baby Sipper that:

  • Soft-Tip, Gentle on Gums.
  • 150ml: Tiny-Hand Size.
  • Spill-Free, Easy-Flow Valve.

Tiny hands wrapped around a first cup: another small step away from the newborn days, and another one you made possible. Notice how confidently you now sense what your baby is ready for; that instinct was built through months of showing up.

FAQs Related to Week 25 of Baby

By 6 months, your baby is likely sitting with support, exploring first foods, babbling in longer strings, and grabbing everything within reach. Changing stools and messy mealtimes are a normal part of weaning too. Remember that every 6 month old baby develops at their own pace, so milestones are guides, not tests.
Reading a board book together while your baby sits supported is one of the best activities for a 6 month old baby. It builds sitting strength, language exposure, and a lovely daily habit, all in five to ten minutes. Bright pictures, silly voices, and letting baby pat the pages make it even richer.
Most 6 month old babies need roughly 12 to 15 hours of sleep in 24 hours, spread across nighttime sleep and two to three naps. Some babies sleep longer stretches at night now, while others still wake often, and both are normal. A calm, predictable bedtime routine helps everyone rest better.
To recover faster after delivery, eat regular, balanced meals rich in protein, iron, and calcium: think dal, eggs, paneer, green vegetables, whole grains, and plenty of fluids. A proper breakfast within an hour of waking makes a real difference, especially if you are breastfeeding. Your doctor can check your iron and vitamin levels too.
