Week 24

Baby says this week
I'm already storing memories this week. I recognize names, basic words like "no" and "bye-bye," and familiar sounds. I look when you point out objects and I may also point at things when you name them.

This could be the month your baby cuts their first tooth, get the camera ready.
The bottom two front teeth usually show up first, followed by the top two front teeth, but baby teeth can arrive in any order and at any time between about 4 and 12 months. Some babies breeze through teething. Others are miserable, drooly, irritable, chewing on everything, with slightly disrupted sleep.
Teeth and brushing- As soon as that first tooth pokes through, start brushing twice a day with a soft baby toothbrush and a rice-grain-sized smear of fluoride toothpaste (no more than that at this age). Lay your baby on your lap with their head tipped back, lift the lip, and gently brush the front and back of each tooth. If your baby isn't keen, offer them the brush to hold while you use another one, or make it a game in front of a mirror.
- A clean, chilled (not frozen) teething ring
- A cool wet washcloth to chew on
- Extra cuddles and distraction
- Skip teething gels, amber necklaces and any alcohol-based rubs, none of these are safe or needed
- Teething does not cause high fever. If your baby has a temperature over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), vomiting, diarrhoea or seems unwell, something else is going on. Call the pediatrician.
That first pearly tooth will make its grand entrance exactly when it pleases, and it will be worth the drooly wait. Among all the 6 month old baby milestones, this one comes with the most photographed smile of the year. Keep the camera close and your patience closer; both will be rewarded.

Twenty-four weeks. About six months in. The "comparing babies" trap is real, and worth dodging.
Every baby develops at their own pace
- Some babies sit at 5 months, some at 8. Some say "mama" at 8 months, some at 14. Some sleep through the night at 4 months, some at 14 months. Within the wide normal range, your baby is fine.
Indian context, extra pressure
- Indian families and joint households often have lots of well-meaning comparison: "Sharma-ji's grandson is already crawling." "Aunty's daughter spoke at 9 months." Most of it is not from a bad place, but it can chip away at a new mum's confidence.
What actually matters at 6 months
- Smiling, cooing, making eye contact
- Reaching for things, beginning to grasp
- Lifting head well during tummy time
- Responding to sounds and voices
- Generally happy and feeding well
If those are happening, your baby is doing what babies this age do.
Worth flagging
Things to genuinely mention at the next pediatrician visit, not panic-worthy, but worth checking:
- Not making eye contact at all
- Not turning toward sound
- Not babbling or making any vowel sounds
- Stiffness or unusual floppiness
- Loss of skills already had
Earlier checking is always better, but most "behind" babies are simply on a slower normal.
A note on milestones
- The internet shows you the most advanced babies because that is what people post. The shy baby, the late roller, the cautious crawler, those mums are mostly not posting. Your social feed is curated, not representative.
Worth checking with the pediatrician
If any of these are happening, mention them at the next visit:
- Not making eye contact at all
- Not turning toward sound
- Not babbling or making any vowel sounds
- Loss of skills already had
Your baby is not behind; they are simply busy becoming themselves. Muting the noise, the feeds, the aunties, the charts, is a quiet form of postpartum self care that protects both of you. The only pace that matters is unfolding right there in your lap.
Care That Grows With You

By week 24, you may be prepping for solids next month or transitioning to a bottle for back-to-work feeds. An anti-colic bottle with a slow-flow nipple and air-vent valve reduces gas, mimics breastfeeding latch, and is BPA-free. Useful for Indian winter night feeds when baby wakes hungry. Try Mylo Anti-Colic Bottle that:
- Air-Vent Valve, Less Gas.
- Slow-Flow Mimics Breast Latch.
- BPA-Free, Steriliser-Safe.
Every feed, bottle or breast, is a moment your baby feels utterly safe in your hands. Handing over a night feed now and then is not a compromise; it is part of protecting your own postpartum recovery too. Rested arms hold just as much love.

Week 24: pregnancy melasma (the dark patches on cheeks, forehead, upper lip) is fading slowly, but the right face wash speeds it. A turmeric + saffron ubtan cleanser removes dullness without stripping moisture, and is safe while nursing. Use morning and evening. Try Mylo Ubtan Face Wash that:
- Fades Pregnancy Pigmentation.
- Turmeric + Saffron Blend.
- Nursing-Safe, Sulphate-Free.
Your face has held a thousand new expressions this year: worry, wonder, and a love you did not know before. A quiet minute at the basin, morning and evening, can become its own small ritual of postpartum self care. Meet your reflection with kindness; she has been through something beautiful.
