23 Week Old Baby: Your Baby's Development and Your Recovery This Week
Your baby is 23 weeks old (6 months). Around 6 months, your baby is ready to start solids, but milk still does most of the work, so start slow with just 1 to 2 teaspoons a day. For you, twenty-three weeks. Your nutrition has probably slipped while you were focused on baby's solids. Here is your week, tracked.
Week 23
Your baby is 6 months old
Baby says this week
By 23 weeks, I've likely acquired strength in my upper body, but my legs and torso are ready for a challenge. Some ways to help me progress: gently pull me to a standing position on your lap and bounce, or pull me to a sitting position on the floor.
Your Baby's Development

Around 6 months, your baby is ready to start solids, but milk still does most of the work, so start slow with just 1 to 2 teaspoons a day.
Ready to start? Your baby can sit up with a little support, holds the head steady, leans forward when you eat, and doesn't push food out with the tongue anymore.
First foods (soft and mashed)- Dal paani, rice-dal mix, mashed banana, stewed apple, ragi porridge, khichdi, plain curd. One new food at a time, a couple of days apart.
- Honey. Even a taste can cause a serious infection in babies under 1.
- Cow's milk as a main drink. Small amounts in cooking are fine, but it shouldn't replace breastmilk or formula until 12 months.
- Whole nuts, whole grapes, popcorn, hard candy, all choking risks.
- Added salt and sugar.
- Peanut, egg, dairy, wheat and fish should actually be introduced early, not avoided. Small amount, one at a time, early in the day so you can watch for reactions. This has been shown to lower the chance of developing a real food allergy.
- Hives, swelling of lips or face, vomiting, trouble breathing, go to the emergency room.
First tastes are tiny ceremonies: a teaspoon of your kitchen, a lifetime of flavours beginning. Watching your baby meet food for the very first time is one of the sweetest 6 month old baby milestones you will witness. Your patience with every spat-out spoonful is the seasoning that matters most.

Twenty-three weeks. Your nutrition has probably slipped while you were focused on baby's solids. Time to feed yourself with the same care.
Breakfast matters most
Postpartum mums (especially breastfeeding) need a proper breakfast within an hour of waking. Indian options that work:
- Poha with peanuts, lemon and curd
- Upma with vegetables and a fried egg if you eat eggs
- Two methi or palak parathas with curd
- Sooji idli or dosa with chutney and sambhar
- Daliya (broken wheat) cooked with milk, jaggery and almonds
A bowl of fruit and a glass of milk after also works on rough mornings.
Mid-meal snacks that are not biscuits
- A handful of soaked almonds, 2 dates, a banana, roasted chana, a paneer paratha leftover from breakfast. Avoid mid-day biscuit-and-chai habit, sugar dips lead to bigger crashes.
Hydration
- Breastfeeding mums need around 3 litres of fluid a day. Water, milk, jeera water, coconut water, soup, dal water. A steel jug on your desk or nursing chair is the simplest reminder.
Worth flagging
- If you are losing more than 0.5 kg a week, feeling dizzy, or your milk supply is dropping, you are likely undereating. Mums who skip meals to "lose pregnancy weight" tank their own recovery and milk supply both. Eat first.
Indian-mum traditional dietary support
- A few soaked methi seeds chewed in the morning is an old galactagogue.
- Til (sesame) laddu in winters provides calcium and warmth.
- A handful of soaked black chana with jaggery, iron + protein.
- A glass of haldi-doodh (turmeric milk) before bed is calming and anti-inflammatory.
Coffee and chai
- Both are fine in moderation while breastfeeding (around 200–300 mg of caffeine per day, roughly 2–3 cups). Most of it does not pass to baby in any meaningful amount. If your baby seems unusually fussy on days you have had more, cut back.
Somewhere between the baby's meals and everyone else's, your own plate slipped down the list; today, move it back up. A warm, familiar diet after delivery, the poha, the parathas, the haldi-doodh, is comfort and healing served together. Feed the mother the way she feeds the family.
Picked for Your Journey

By week 23, evening walks are part of the day, and so are mosquitoes. Indian summers bring dengue and chikungunya risk through monsoon. DEET-free citronella + eucalyptus patches stick on the pram or clothes (not skin), last 8 hours, are safe from 3 months+. Try Mylo Mosquito Patches that:
- Citronella + Eucalyptus Oil.
- 8-Hour DEET-Free Protection.
- Sticks On Cloth, Not Skin.
Those evening walks are stitching calm into both your days; keep them sacred. With the little worries handled, you are free to enjoy what the walk is really for: open sky, slow steps, and your baby watching the world from the pram.

Week 23: by now showers happen between feeds in 4-minute windows. A daily ubtan body wash with besan, haldi, and saffron does triple duty: cleanses without stripping, brightens uneven tan, and lifts mood. Sulphate-free, nursing-safe. Try Mylo Ubtan Body Wash that:
- Besan + Haldi + Saffron Blend.
- Brightens Uneven Tan.
- Sulphate-Free, Daily Use.
Even the quickest shower between feeds can feel like a small ceremony when you let it be one. The steam, the scent of haldi, a door that stays shut for a few breaths: claim it without guilt. Looking after yourself is part of the day's real work, not a break from it.

Your Baby's Vision
The fog is lifting, slowly. Your baby sees the world like someone who needs glasses but isn't wearing them yet. Close things are sharp, far things still soft. See below.
Try This : Move a toy from far to close and back. Watch it come into focus for them too.
