14 Week Old Baby: Your Baby's Development and Your Recovery This Week
Your baby is 14 weeks old (4 months). Three and a half months in, and your baby is getting properly good at using their hands. For you, fourteen weeks in. Many Indian mums return to work somewhere between 12 and 26 weeks postpartum, depending on company policy, family help and your own readiness… Here is your week, tracked.
Week 14
Your baby is 4 months old
Baby says this week
Rattles and dangling toys amuse me at 14 weeks; they also develop my hand and eye skills. I'm also intrigued by multi-textured toys, bright primary colors, and things that make sounds. I'll bat or grasp them (I'll also try to put them in my mouth!)

Three and a half months in, and your baby is getting properly good at using their hands.
Your baby is starting to master the art of grasping. They may already be reaching for toys dangling from a mobile, and soon they'll be able to grab a rattle or soft block and hold on to it for a few seconds. Letting go on purpose is harder, that comes later, so expect a few toys to end up stuck in tiny fists.
14-week vaccines are due now- The third dose of the infant schedule in India is given around 14 weeks: DPT, HepB, OPV or IPV, Hib, PCV and Rotavirus. A mild fever, fussiness or a sore leg for 24 to 48 hours is normal. Call the pediatrician if a fever stays above 39 °C (102 °F), your baby is very limp or hard to wake, or unusual crying lasts more than 3 hours.
- Drooling: lots of babies start to drool around now. It is usually just the salivary glands waking up, not early teething.
- Rolling: some babies roll from tummy to back this month. Once they can roll, never leave them alone on a bed, sofa or changing table, even for a second.
- Feeding: most babies this age take around 700–950 ml of milk in 24 hours, across 5–7 feeds.
- Still back-to-sleep, still on a firm flat surface, still nothing in the cot but your baby. Room-sharing with your baby in their own sleep space stays the advice until around 6 months to lower the risk of sudden infant death (SIDS).
Watching tiny fingers finally close around a rattle feels like a small miracle in slow motion. Keep a corner of your heart for these ordinary afternoons; they are the quiet stuff of baby development, unfolding right there on your lap.

Fourteen weeks in. Many Indian mums return to work somewhere between 12 and 26 weeks postpartum, depending on company policy, family help and your own readiness.
Returning to work, pumping basics for Indian offices
- Two pumping sessions during a typical workday (mid-morning + mid-afternoon) keep supply steady.
- Indian workplace law (Maternity Benefit Act 2017) requires creches in offices with 50+ staff and two daily nursing breaks for 15 months, most mums have to politely insist.
- A small cooler bag with ice packs keeps milk safe for the commute home.
- Express milk lasts 4 hours at room temperature, 24 hours in a normal fridge, and 6 months in a deep freezer.
If your partner or family is the day caregiver
- Bottle-feeding can take 2–3 weeks of patient practice before baby accepts it.
- A grandparent or caregiver who is home all day with the baby builds a beautiful bond, let them.
Setting up the new rhythm
- Going back to work and still running a home is a lot. Whatever support you have, a parent, in-laws, a helper, or close friends, lean on it warmly. And whatever you choose to outsource, cooked dabba services, a part-time cook, ready meals, that is a sensible choice, not a compromise. Sustainable beats stretched-thin.
Worth flagging
- Persistent low mood at 3.5 months postpartum is not "just tired", it is often when delayed PPD shows up. Talk to your gynae or a therapist.
A note on guilt
- Mums who go back to work, mums who stay at home, mums who do part-time, mums who wfh, every setup comes with its own guilt and judgment. None of them are the wrong choice. The right choice is the one that lets you and your baby both thrive. Tune out the rest.
Whichever version of working motherhood you choose, it will be stitched together with love and logistics in equal measure. Giving yourself the same tenderness you give your baby is postpartum self care, not indulgence; you are allowed to be a priority in your own plan.

Around week 14, your baby has the second IAP shot (DPT, Hib, polio, PCV booster) and many babies turn fussy with mild fever and tummy upset for 24–48 hours. A hing + saunf + ajwain roll-on warms the tummy and eases trapped wind without crossing into the bloodstream. Try Mylo Tummy Roll-On that:
- Hing + Saunf + Ajwain.
- Eases Toddler Tummy Aches.
- Roll-On, Quick, No Mess.
Vaccine days ask a lot of little bodies and of mothers' hearts. Once the fussing settles, let yourself settle too: a warm drink, a long exhale, and the quiet knowledge that comfort flows best from calm arms.

By week 14, postpartum hair fall is at full peak: you're sweeping clumps off the bathroom floor. The hormone reset is normal; most regrowth returns by month 6. An overnight scalp oil with onion, bhringraj and amla feeds the follicles and slows the shedding. Indian onion-tel ritual in a clean modern bottle. Try Mylo Onion Hair Oil that:
- Slows Postpartum Hair Fall.
- Onion, Bhringraj & Amla Blend.
- Pre & Post Pregnancy Safe.
The clumps on the comb can feel like one more thing your body is asking of you. Treat the oiling ritual as a few unhurried minutes that belong only to you: warm oil, slow circles, and a door gently closed on the day's demands.

Your Baby's Vision
Colour vision is partial this week. Black, white and a splash of red. Pastels still wash out into nothing. Their world is getting bolder, but not full HD yet. See below.
Try This : Put a red toy next to a pale pink one. Watch which way that tiny hand goes first.
