Your Baby's Development

2 min read
Your baby thrives on touch, it calms, comforts and helps with development in ways no toy can. Skin-to-skin time remains one of the best things you can do, even now, and especially when your baby is upset.
Try introducing different textures during play, soft fabrics, fur, felt, a small towel, a smooth wooden spoon. Watching their face change as they feel each one is part of the fun, and it builds the sensory map their brain is wiring up.
Things that sometimes help- Foot rubs and gentle leg cycles when winding down for a nap.
- A daily oil massage (a long Indian tradition), coconut, almond or a baby-safe oil, strengthens the bond and helps sleep.
- Hold your baby close during feeds; the closeness regulates their heart rate and breathing.
- Lay them on their tummy across your lap a few times a day, strengthens neck and shoulders.
- Still the rule. Back, firm flat mattress, alone in the crib. The peak SIDS window is closing in a few weeks, but for now, don't relax on this.
- The 14-week IAP shots are around the corner, second dose of DPT, Hib, polio, PCV and rotavirus. Book early.
- If your baby seems unusually limp, unusually stiff, doesn't make eye contact at all, or shows no interest in faces or sounds, mention it at the next pediatrician visit.
- Many Indian families have a winding-down ritual around this age, soft lori at the same time each night, dim lights, no screens. Babies pick up the rhythm fast and start signalling sleep readiness with quieter eyes and slower kicks.
Every oil massage and every skin-to-skin cuddle is a conversation your baby understands long before words. Touch is the mother tongue of baby development, and you have been speaking it fluently since day one.

Thirteen weeks. The first quarter is done.
Body recovery markers at 3 months
- Most postpartum bodies have moved past the highest-risk window. Lochia has stopped. Perineum or C-section scar is mostly healed. Pelvic floor is starting to firm again, but only if you are doing the work.
Now is when gentle exercise can really start (with gynae clearance)
- Walks lengthening to 30–45 minutes
- Postpartum-specific yoga (look for instructors trained in post-natal)
- Pelvic floor exercises, daily, kegels are not enough; full pelvic-floor PT if available
- Diastasis recti check before any core work, a gap in the abdominal muscles is common after pregnancy and crunches make it worse
Eating well for the long postpartum
Breastfeeding mums need around 450–500 extra calories a day for the first 6 months. Indian basics that work:
- Bajra rotis, ragi laddus, gond ke laddu, iron and warmth
- Methi seeds, ajwain water, galactagogues, gentle on digestion
- Curd-rice, paneer, dal, protein and calcium
- Soaked almonds, dates, a banana, between-meal fuel
- A vitamin D supplement if your gynae has tested low (very common in Indian women)
Worth flagging
- If you still feel persistently exhausted even after a full night's sleep, anaemia or thyroid imbalance is worth testing. Both are very common in Indian postpartum mums and very treatable. Ask your gynae for a complete blood count and thyroid (TSH) panel at the next visit.
A note on supplements
- Almost every Indian woman is low on Vit D and iron postpartum. Calcium, B12 and Omega-3 are common follow-ups. Supplements are not optional vitamins, they are filling real gaps your diet alone cannot in the postpartum window. Always run them past your gynae before starting.
Feeding yourself well is not vanity; it is the quiet fuel behind every lullaby and every midnight feed. A thoughtful diet after delivery is a thank-you letter to your body, written one warm meal at a time.
Support You’ll Love Right Now

By week 13, your baby loves bath time: splashing, kicking, looking up. A foldable Indian-bathroom-friendly tub with an anti-slip base and temperature indicator turns daily bath into safe play. Folds flat behind the door when done. Try Mylo Foldable Baby Bathtub that:
- Anti-Slip Base, Splash-Safe.
- Temperature Indicator Built-In.
- Folds Flat, Saves Bathroom Space.
Bath-time splashes have a way of washing the day off both of you. When the tub is folded away and the towels are drying, give yourself credit for the joy you build into these ordinary evenings.

Week 13: stretch marks have shifted from pink/red to silvery-white. This is the long fade phase, and a bio-oil-style blend with rosehip, vitamin E, and almond keeps elasticity up while marks lighten. Apply twice daily on belly, hips, breasts. Try Mylo Stretch Marks Oil that:
- Rosehip + Vitamin E + Almond.
- Lightens Old Silvery Marks.
- Twice Daily, Pump-Easy.
Those fading lines are your skin slowly exhaling after months of holding a whole world. Let the daily ritual be less about erasing and more about tending: a moment when your hands care for you, not just for everyone else.
