124 Week Old Toddler: Your Toddler's Development and Your Recovery This Week
Your toddler is 124 weeks old (29 months). At this age your toddler knows what they want, and what they do not want, with intensity. For you, around 30 months. The "no!" and choosing rituals are intense. Here is your week, tracked.
Week 124
Your baby is 2 years 5 months old
Baby says this week
Sometimes I feel shy and afraid but I always want to test my limits. I have no clue about the safety measures of any place so I might run far away from you and start crying when I am unable to see you. I can climb the scariest swings and might get stuck there, I might also get tangled in a cord or a fence unknowingly. I feel confident when you encourage me to enhance my physical skills, Mummy. I love to play with the ball and most of the time I might kick the ball in the wrong direction and also might fall while taking a leap or a jump.
Your Toddler's Development

2 min read
At this age your toddler knows what they want, and what they do not want, with intensity.
Around 29 months, toddlers often take forever to pick between two options, reject things they loved yesterday, and meltdown when offered the "wrong" cup, spoon, or t-shirt. This is not bad behaviour. It is a new brain figuring out that they have opinions, and those opinions matter.
Offering choices without losing your mind- Two options, both things you are fine with: "Red shirt or blue shirt?"
- Skip open-ended questions at decision time ("What do you want to wear?" usually ends in tears)
- Once they choose, stick with it, do not reopen the question
- If they freeze, choose for them and move on: "I will pick today. Red shirt it is."
- Most meltdowns at this age mean one of four things: hungry, tired, overwhelmed, or wanting connection. Before trying to reason, run the checklist. A snack and 10 minutes on your lap fixes more than any lecture.
- If something is a no, running on the road, throwing food, the no stays. Say it calmly, offer an alternative, ride out the upset. Kind and firm at the same time. Giving in because the screaming is loud teaches that screaming works.
- Tantrums going past 25 minutes regularly, head-banging that breaks skin, or breath-holding spells, mention these at the next pediatrician visit.
- Soft khichdi with a spoonful of ghee, mashed roti dipped in dal, a small bowl of curd-rice with a pinch of jaggery, these go down easily and pack iron and fat in the right amounts.
Strong opinions about cups and t-shirts are 2 year old milestones in their own right, signs of a little mind discovering that it matters. On the loud days, remember that this fierce little person chose you as their safe place to feel it all.
Your Health & Lifestyle

Around 30 months. The "no!" and choosing rituals are intense. Your toddler has clear preferences for everything.
What's happening for you
- You have to make choices for your toddler all day, clothes, food, activities. They have feelings about all of them. Negotiation is constant.
Things that often help
- Offer 2 choices ("blue or red?"), not open-ended
- Don't ask "do you want to" if it's not optional
- Stay calm during refusal; keep it short
- Pick your battles, not every preference is worth a fight
For mum's energy
Decision fatigue is real. Reduce decisions where you can:
- Pre-plan weekly outfits, meals, activities
- Have a default routine that doesn't require fresh thinking each day
- Delegate small decisions to your partner or family
Eating well
- Three meals + two snacks. Skip nothing.
Worth flagging
- If your toddler's tantrums for unmet preferences are extreme, head-banging, breath-holding, harming self or others, talk to the pediatrician. Most are normal range; some benefit from sensory or behavioural input.
Indian-tradition tip
- Children with too many choices can become more anxious, not less. The Indian tradition of "Mummy decided, eat what's on the plate" has its merits, within reason. Two choices for your toddler, not ten.
Indian-mum reminder
- You're not a short-order cook. Your toddler eats what the family eats (in their portion, milder spice). This protects your sanity and teaches them flexibility.
A note for joint-family mums
- If you live with extended family, weekly small chats with your partner about logistics, boundaries and your own state matter. Without them, joint-family stress builds invisibly. 15 minutes once a week, in private.
Parenting a toddler with firm opinions asks more of you than most people ever see. On the evenings when you feel wrung out by a hundred small negotiations, know that your steady presence is quietly teaching your child what love with boundaries looks like.
