Have you ever wondered what a thermometer with a more defined range is used for? Pretty ladies, the thermometer measures Basal Body temperature, a handy tool to detect when your naughty ovum is leaving your ovaries. More precisely, it is an essential indicator of ovulation and helps you plan your pregnancy or can even be used as a contraception method.

The Basal Body Temperature is one of how you can determine your fertile days and when you are ovulating. Basal Body Temperature helps trace and record your ovulation cycle when trying to conceive. When women ovulate, their basal body temperature may be slightly higher than average. Thus, it is recommended for women trying to have a baby to keep track of their basal body temperature so that they can become more aware of ovulation dates.

Basal Body Temperature Meaning

Basal body temperature (BBT) is the body's temperature at rest and is usually measured first thing in the morning before getting out of bed. During a woman's menstrual cycle, her BBT changes slightly due to hormonal fluctuations. Tracking these changes in BBT can help women determine their fertile window, which is the time when they are most likely to conceive.

How is Basal Body Temperature helpful during conception?

Here are some of the reasons why measuring basal body temperature can be helpful during conception:

Predicting Ovulation

BBT charting can help women predict when they will ovulate. Typically, a woman's BBT will lower before ovulation and rise slightly after ovulation. By tracking these changes, women can identify their fertile window and time intercourse accordingly.

Confirming Ovulation

After ovulation, a woman's BBT will remain elevated until her next period. By tracking her BBT, a woman can confirm that she has ovulated and determine the length of her luteal phase, which is the time between ovulation and the next menstrual period. If her luteal phase is shorter than ten days, it may be a sign of a fertility issue.

Identifying Pregnancy

If a woman's BBT remains elevated for more than 14 days after ovulation, it can be a sign of pregnancy. While a positive pregnancy test is the most accurate way to confirm pregnancy, tracking BBT can provide an early indication of pregnancy.

Why is it essential to measure basal body temperature when trying to get pregnant?

Monitoring your basal body temperature makes you more likely to make a calculated and informed decision about your ovulation cycle. This will help you to determine the best time to have sexual intercourse with your partner, and this will enhance your chances of conceiving.

Noting down your basal body temperature can be helpful when trying to start a family. When you are entirely aware of your ovulation days, there are higher chances of conceiving a baby and getting pregnant. Make sure that you religiously note your temperature to get an accurate idea.

You can use a Basal Body Temperature Tracker Tool to record your body temperature to understand and determine when you are ovulating and when you are not. The basal body temperature tool, available on the Mylo App, is a great way to record your basal body temperature. You should record this temperature using a basal body thermometer only and record it every morning.
