Every day for the previous three weeks, 31-year-previous Jikmet Wangdu has been going to IGI Airport to gather an ice field that reaches him from Leh in Ladakh. Dr Harshwardhan, principal guide (paediatrics) at Max, revealed, “The feeds come in a specific container made of thermocol and rexine. Once the baby has taken his mother’s milk, the empty bottles are flown back to Leh, where the mother refills them and sends them back to us.”
The excellent news is that Wangdu and his son will probably be heading house in a pair of days. The toddler has responded nicely to therapy, and docs have additionally begun to give him oral feeds. “My son is recovering and getting stronger and I am grateful to the hospital for taking such great care,” stated Wangdu.
Dr Harshwardhan stated the boy was met by the hospital group on the airport when his uncle flew him to Delhi. “The baby was diagnosed with tracheoesophageal fistula with oesophageal atresia. This is not uncommon and an infant needs diagnosis and surgical intervention within 48 hours of birth.” He added that the boy’s well being had improved sufficient for him now to return house. “He is a very chirpy child and often interacts with the nurses,” the physician smiled.
